This is it. The old Celica has too many problems to make it worth fixing. It shudders any time you press the accelerator, and it makes 0-30 in about 10 seconds. 60 is a target best left alone. After this week, my mom and dad are putting it on Indy CL.
This is my last chance to have summer fun with it. I ran out for milk. I had to jump it in the Kroger parking lot. Battery is dead.
So pour one out for the old Celica on its final tour.

Sad day. My Celica was the same color, a 1991 GT coupe. My parents kept it until 2015, when they scrapped it. It was mechanically great, but the doors had mismatched locks, the trunk was broken, and the rust was starting to take hold. Alas. That car provided me many great memories in high school and college.

Too sporty for him. Plus, it would never make the journey

Yeah, it’s kinda hard to put it down. But then, I’m not the one paying the repair bills

Now that would be a sight.

Maybe we could just do a rely race with it up to WA. You drive it to the closest Oppo. He does a little work on it and takes it to the next guy, so on and so forth until it gets to him!

You know, that’s a hell of an idea. If we could pull it off, it would make an epic story.

If we got good enough at it, we could start a business ‘exporting’ cars from the South to the North, where all their cool old cars have rusted away!

I understand that. My parents would have given me the Celica but I live in Boston and had nowhere to put it.

An Underground Railroad to save and liberate cars. It could be a nonprofit charity.

I’d take it, but same. Also, it’s not in any condition to make the 900 mile trip.

So what exactly is wrong with it?
A dead battery and a bad misfire could possibly be caused by the same thing...

This is what I know copied from my answer to mkbruin:
Okay, here’s the info. 1992 Celica GT soft top with 155k on the odometer. The main problem is that the engine runs very rough with poor acceleration. The guys at Indy Tire said all cylinders fire, but there’s a timing issue. The emergency brake is disconnected because the cable that controls it is not wired properly (I’m told). The battery is dead and won’t hold a charge no matter what. If I jump it, it starts right up, and all electrics work. So, alternator is good. There is a crack in the windshield. There is a rip in the vinyl rear window. The paint is dull but unblemished by rust that I can see. A/C and heat work. Radio and tape deck work. Cloth top motor works. Top is water tight except for that rip. $200.
